A Search for Geminga-like Pulsars in the ROSAT Archive
Abstract
A project has been started in which a catalog of unidentified, soft ROSAT PSPC point sources is being searched for pulsars that are similar to Geminga. Geminga has no radio emission and was discovered in gamma -rays. Determination of the pulsation period required ROSAT X-ray observations. The X-ray emission from Geminga is best interpreted as cooling emission from the surface of the neutron star, and this search focuses on identifying pulsars with similar spectral characteristics. The initial selections for candidate pulsars have been made using the catalog ROSATSRC, and the initial selection criteria produced 8 possible candidates, none of which have yielded pulsations. A report of the progress to date will be presented.
